If you
look at our Kalendar, there is so much going on, I can't keep up
with writing about the events AND posting them. I need your help.
If you attend an event or have a heart-warming pet therapy story,
please send them to blogger@kpets.org. We'll post
them on the KPETSTails blog
and add a link to them in the newsletter too.

Memories!
Memories!
Memories! - by Diane Rima & Chester
Just
wanted to pass this along to you....I am amazed at what God does
though our pups! Dori is my neighbor and Rec Therapist on the
Alzeimers Floor at Willow Valley. Leroy (name changed) is a
man, under hospice care now, who is on the Alz floor. He has a
special connection with Chester, and when we visit, Chester hops up
on his bed and lays down with him for a bit. Both love it. Our last
visit with Leroy was on Friday, and we took him a small stuffed
golden retriever as a gift. We have visited Leroy about 4-5 times
over the past few months. Here's Dori's latest email. Love,
Diane and Chester

Hi
Diane, I just had to tell you about my visit with Leroy today. I
went into his room before lunch to say hi to him and chat a little
bit...he is always sitting up in bed right before meal times!
Anyway...he was very excited to see me and started pointing right
away to his dresser. I saw the bookmark of Chester on the dresser
and thought he was pointing to that, so I brought it over to him.
He shook his head and kept pointing to the dresser. Well...sitting
right next to the bookmark of Chester was an old B&W photograph
of a large dog in the snow that looks dated from the 50s. He told
me that was his dog! He then pointed with his finger to a
large building in the photograph behind the dog. He told me
that was his greenhouse! Did I tell you he used to be an avid
gardener and had a greenhouse!
I asked
him where he got the picture and he pointed to a box on a stand
next to his dresser. This box has mementos. He must have been going
through his photos looking for that picture so he could put it next
to the picture of Chester! Your visits have opened up other
memories for him! What a wonderful thing! Wanna hear something else
neat. Leroy then pointed to the top of the TV set that is in his
room. When he pointed he laughed...know why? Because on the top of
the TV set looking over at him is the Chester stuffed toy on one side
and a mini frog on the other! Did I tell you he also loves frogs!
In fact...frogs, gardening, birds and of course dogs...are his
favorite things! Thought you'd love to hear the story! Dori

Santa Parade, Palmyra, PA - by Nan Hanshaw
KPETS
was well represented by dogs in Santa suits in the Palmyra Winterfest Parade on Saturday, December 3rd. Eight
dogs participated; Millie and Sophie in strollers, Edgar, Copper,
Molly, Rascal, Brody, and little Jasmine riding in a wheelchair.
The parade was a huge success, and the crowd adored the dogs in their costumes. Two young men
were recruited to carry the KPETS banner, and they did so for the
length of the parade route, wearing elf ears the entire time.
Calling
Cards - by Cindy
Barnes and Jean-Luc Cochranville, PA
Until
recently, I didn't know how easy it is to design and print business
cards. In case you've never ventured there either, I'd like to
recommend the Avery website. They have an online design tool that
is free and truly easy to use. It is based, of course, on their
products, which in any case are pretty ubiquitous. www.avery.com/templates.
Here are several cards that my pup, Jean-Luc, and I have used. On
the reverse side, I put the KPETS logo. Last Christmas, I attached
cards with a ribbon to candy canes. Jean-Luc has a vest with
zippered pockets in the sides and I filled these with the candy
canes so that he could deliver them to our friends. I checked
first with the facilities to make sure it was okay. At the
elementary school where we read, we thought it best to eliminate
the candy canes. We could have used pencils, but I didn't think of
it in time. At the nursing home, they thought very small candy
canes would be best; at the VA Hospital we used larger ones.
This
fall, I attached cards to small American flags and we gave them to
our vet friends at the VA Hospital for Veterans Day.
As you
might imagine, these mementos have elicited a lot of oohs and aahs.
KPETS also offers business cards for your pup. Contact the office to find out more!
